non-diet weightloss?.... and giveaway winner!

According to various studies...the average American gains
2 pounds each year.  (yikes!).  But there is some research in The
Journal of Nutrition that...just maybe, there is a way to help
prevent this...even possible there is a way to encourage weightLOSS
(get this...) without dieting.  Is it a new PILL?...nope.  Or some
kind of SURGERY? ...nope.  The secret:

Researchers at Brigham Young University, Utah...
followed the eating habits of 252 middle-aged women for
nearly two years and found that those who increased their fiber
intake generally LOST weight.  Women who decreased the fiber
in their diets....GAINED weight.
With the research in mind the scientists came up with this
weight-loss formula:
~Boosting fiber by 8 grams for every 1,000 calories consumed
resulted in losing about 4.5 pounds over the course study
*this held true whether a woman was eating 3 0r 25 grams of
fiber at the start of the study

What do YOU think??
I'm going to make an effort to try to include MORE fiber
in my foods this coming week

 ~~~ Ruby's Report ~~~
Treadmill - 6 days...but, I was kind a "dragon" this week. I only did one day
              of 3 miles.   It seems that if I watch TV series (the weekly ones).  I walk
              faster and longer, than, if I am reading and writing stuff on my laptop
              while walking.  I guess my brain just can't concentrate the completely
              doing two things at once =P
Food -  I did "OK" with food choices this week.  I must say that I probably ate
             too many peanuts and too much butter on my (homemade) bread.  I
             didn't really eat "junk" foods tho.
Weight(loss)? - sad to say...I went up .8 this week....I gotta be more diligent with
            calorie intake this coming week.  And I am going to try to eat more grams
             of fiber.
I have lost over 44 pounds since Christmas 1011 and I lost it eating more fruits and vegetables. It really works.
More fiber, eh? So, if I mix a handful of hay into the brownies, that'll work, right? Oh, gosh, I so wish it were that easy!
I'm with the fruits & veggies group....a good handful of strawberries seems to quench my hunger for sweets and if I eat enough of 'em, they fill me up too! At least for a little while! I get my crunchies from celery & carrots.
Oh those cookies sound heavy. I'm not a sweet eater. Fruits and vegies are good fiber. I don't eat a lot of meat, so needed to add protein - beans,lentils, peanut butter (sparingly as yuck). I got very cold here (snow) so little walking - using the floor pedal. Once it warms again - all the flower bed will need work, so lots of bending and stretching will take place.
Thanks for sharing the rearch on fiber and weight loss? Could you share other ways of adding fiber to our diets? Thanks for the cookie receipe! I love baking and will give these a try. Good luck with your goals this week!
The cookies look good to me!
Beans are a great source of fiber. I make bean cakes (not a dessert, but more like a patty that you serve with fresh tomato and onion relish) that I sometimes eat for lunch. I also add flaxseed to my bread when I bake homemade bread. (It's easy to throw some into other things also.)
Thanks for the research report!
Great ideas Annie. I like this idea of adding more fiber. I have done that over the past year. For me it's watching what I cram in my mouth during stressful times that hurts my weight loss.
That looks like my kind of cookie recipe. I did post a choc. cake recipe made with chick peas a while back. Some one warned others off it because of the high fiber...but she had eaten over half the cake in one sitting!
Interesting, Annie. I've read similar reports of fiber helping with weight loss.
Congrats to the winner!
Thank you for the recipe, I love the secret ingredient, that's the kind that is good to feed to others who moan about fiber, lol!
Thanks, Annie! Good idea to concentrate on fiber - it fills you up with less calories. I've got to put some thought into a goal for this week...thinking, thinking, thinking....
Thanks for the tip, I am going to try and add a little fiber to my diet and see if it helps. I just started this week with a little cardio. My butt hurts like some one punched each cheek. I guess there still is a little muscle there.
